a finished photo::what a slacker i am

it has certainly been some time since i've shown this blog any love. i've been creating here and there but just haven't taken the time to share. i just wanted to let you all know that i did in fact finish the bunting in the boys room. and i LOVE it! gage tells me at least once a week that he really loves his flags. he is such a sweet boy.

i'm hoping to get back in the swing of things here and have some little bits of inspiration to share.

until then, happy last days of summer to all!

boyish bunting

wow. i am still here. i haven't entirely forgotten about this blog.
yesterday i found some time while my boys were playing to start a long overdo project. bunting. oh how i love bunting. i've been wanting to add a little color to a very sad wall in my boy's bedroom but haven't had the energy or even desire to lug out my sewing machine.
now that i'm done i'm very happy!
i don't have pictures of it hanging yet but here's a little sneak peek for you.

little fish

a last minute costume choice for my three-year-old was an orange fish. orange. no other colors, just orange.

given that i had a week, of course i searched the stores and internet first. no luck. so one monday afternoon we made the drive to town and prayed for fabric luck. i found some cozy orange fleece that made me smile and most importantly, made the three-year-old smile. passing down the isle some glints of shiny blue caught my eye and i thought it needed to be incorporated. yes, i broke the monotone orange rules. just a teensy bit though.

i went without a pattern and just made a sample from some muslin i had in my closet. it took me less than 5 hours to do the entire costume and i was really pleased with it. gage looked (and felt) awesome!

the trickiest part for sure was attaching the lips to the rest of his head. i ended up hand stitching that part but even that wasn't all that bad. i have this burning desire to make more and try different colors and fabrics.

anyone want to place an order for next year?!
